History of Continuous Improvement
History of Continuous Improvement in Computer Engineering
The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 1993 within Eskişehir Osmangazi University.
In 2000, the department's curriculum was developed based on the criteria recommended by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), the international organization that accredits higher education institutions' programs in applied science, engineering, technology, and informatics.
The first student intake began in 2001-2002.
With our university's participation in the Bologna process, work on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) began. Minor changes were made to the program, increasing the semester course load to 30 ECTS credits in line with international criteria.
Continuous improvement efforts within our department were undertaken in 2006. The department's strengths and weaknesses were identified through a strategic plan study. Internal and external environmental analyses were conducted, and main goals and objectives were determined for the 2007-2010 period. In line with these goals, sub-goals were identified and implemented in the main areas of strengthening the physical infrastructure (buildings, classrooms, laboratories, etc.), increasing research output, and encouraging and supporting student creativity and entrepreneurship.
To continue these continuous improvement efforts more systematically, applications to MÜDEK, the accrediting body for engineering education in Turkey, were initiated.
The department's curriculum was updated with the addition of courses in Entrepreneurship and Project Management.
Bilateral partnerships with companies in the Eskişehir Technology Development Zone began to enhance student engagement with industry.
Our department was accredited by MÜDEK for the 2012-2014 period. The MÜDEK accreditation certificate is also recognized by EURACE (EURopean Accreditation of Engineering Programs) in Europe for engineering programs. A special diploma supplement is issued to graduates to facilitate international admission. Click here for accreditation documents: MÜDEK Admission and EURACE Admission.
Our department was re-accredited by MÜDEK and EURACE (EURopean Accreditation of Engineering Programs) for the 2014-2017 academic year.
Our department was re-accredited by MÜDEK and EURACE (EURopean Accreditation of Engineering Programs) for the 2017-2019 academic year.
Our department was re-accredited by MÜDEK and EURACE (EURopean Accreditation of Engineering Programs) for the 2019-2021 academic year.
